Prišnica Street

Upper Prišnica is one of the oldest parts of Ploče, where the first buildings for railway workers and the city’s first hotel were built.

A recent infrastructure project brought renewed attention to the potential and opportunities for urban renewal in this area, one that still carries the marks of life shaped by the residents over the years, through planting, setting up communal furniture, and improvised shelters.

However, the relationship between the city and the street lost its urban character over time.
This project seeks to bring order without erasing the space’s existing identity—it preserves the place’s spirit while improving usability.

The planned interventions aim to create a safer, more functional, and more pleasant space for all generations. Pedestrian paths and roads are being upgraded, and new public lighting and drainage systems are being introduced. Tree, shrub, and perennial planting, as well as an irrigation system, are planned. Additional facilities for social interaction and outdoor activities are also planned.

Valuable existing elements, such as pathways and greenery, are retained but enhanced to make the space more accessible and legible. The redesign of Prišnica Street addresses the need to thoughtfully, sustainably, and meaningfully shape a space that has grown organically over the years, for the citizens who use it daily.
