The restoration of the former monastery garden was designed as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional monastery garden, respecting the cultural and historical context while adapting to new functional needs. Located within a protected heritage zone, the garden once played an essential role in monastic daily life—from cultivating various fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic herbs, to providing a place for peace, prayer, and reflection.

Based on available cadastral data about the garden’s past use, certain parts were recognized as valuable and inspiring foundations for reconstructing its former appearance and content.

We reinterpreted the monastic garden culture to revitalize a space that will now serve both the local community and visitors. Existing structures—such as the enclosing wall that defines the space, historical access routes, and readable natural relief features—were identified as key elements for revitalization.

This valuable ambient space and its existing structures were considered for preservation and enhancement in light of the garden’s new purpose and function.
