Status
The Memorial Park in Ploče is a unique public space in Dalmatia that connects spatial identity, artistic value, and the city’s everyday life. The original author, sculptor Marijan Kocković, conceived both the spatial concept and the memorial monument, which still defines the space today. The park is located in the city center, between the port, train station, health center, and other public institutions.
The project aims to strengthen the park’s connection with its surroundings. The new design concept reveals and emphasizes the park and monument’s structure. The renovation project was carried out respecting the original idea, and the new urban surface suggests openness to the surrounding spatial context.
The sculptor’s words inspired the design: “…it represents a natural island of rest in the whirlwind of constant motion, a potential oasis of peace at the very junction of a heavily trafficked crossroads of months-long movements of travelers, locals, workers, and sailors… AND MOVEMENT IS LIFE.”
The park becomes a place where urban movement intersects with a peaceful oasis within the city’s bustle.
